Work to repair a gas main on a busy South Tyneside road is set to be completed tomorrow.
One outbound lane of Leam Lane (A194) at Lindisfarne Roundabout, Jarrow, will be closed to allow engineers to finish the work.
They arrived on site on Monday, July 19, and the first part of the work was completed on Tuesday, July 26. Engineers will return tomorrow night to complete it.
Northern Gas Networks (NGN) have been carrying out the work, and have been working closely with South Tyneside Council in a bid to minimise disruption.
The work will start at 8pm and continue throughout the night, with noise levels kept to a minimum.
Both lanes will reopen from 6.30am on Wednesday, and work will continue during daytime hours to return the road to normal. It will be carried out under the existing traffic restrictions in place.
NGN site manager Mick Smith said: “We know that no one likes roadworks and would like to thank members of the public for bearing with us while we carry out this essential work, which will ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in the area for years to come.”
