A woman was knocked to the ground for refusing to hand over a cigarette to youths.
Northumbria Police are appealing for information following the incident on Monday, December 28.
The assault took place between 6.45pm and 7pm on the pathway between Farnham Road and Egerton Road that runs behind the dairy in Egerton Road, South Shields.
The woman, aged 56, was approached by a group of youths, believed to be on bikes, who asked her for a cigarette and to buy alcohol for them, the woman refused and was pushed to the ground.
She suffered minor injuries as a result of the fall and officers are carrying out inquiries and appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
