Youngsters from Trish ‘n’ Trina Performers Academy are heading to London to strut their stuff at the big Saracens v Harlequins rugby union derby on April 16.

The game will see the dancers, aged seven and upwards, take to the stage alongside 2014 Grammy award-winning artist Foxes in front of an expected 85,000 crowd.

English singer songwriter Louisa Rose Allen – better known by her stage name Foxes – won the Best Dance Recording Grammy for her song Clarity.

The dance school, which is run by principal Trina Walker, is based at Washington Art Centre.

Trina, originally from Hetton, has been teaching at the school for 33 years after it was set up by her sister Trish Robson.

The 47-year-old said she was “shocked” when she got the email from Pro-Excel asking the group to take part in May last year.

“This is a wonderful experience for children and parents and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” she said.

“It is a dream come true.

“The company involved in the event emailed us directly out of the blue asking us to take part.”

Pro-Excel offers learning projects to young people by linking schools and groups with professional sport, to encourage youngsters to reach their full potential.

Its “Move It” project, which has given groups, like Trish ‘n’ Trina Performers Academy, the opportunity to perform at sporting events each year.

The dance school has more 200 members. Some of the troupe have already performed at The Royal Albert Hall and the O2 in London.

Those heading to Wembley will take part in two, 15-minute street dance performances during the two breaks of the game to Foxes tracks Amazing and Let Go.

Liam O’Reilly, founder of Manchester-based Pro Excel, said: “I am organising and producing the show which will see 1,100 young people from 18 local authorities perform in front of 85,000 people.

“We look to partner with schools that engage young people from all kinds of backgrounds and Trish ‘n’ Trina’s school really encourage that.”
