Beach sign is misleading

So while South Tyneside Council is doing its damndest to entice holidaymakers to visit our seafront, the new owners of the Marsden Grotto have put up a sign saying ‘private beach’ when in reality it only applies to a small section of sand outside the pub.

I haven’t read anything as stupid since the plan was revealed to join a concrete shoebox to the bandstand and public convenience, known locally as Ghandis Temple, with the hope of creating a fish and chip restaurant.

The previous owners of the Grotto didn’t erect a ‘private beach’ notice as surely there must have been a good reason for not doing so.
