Sorry to learn of the death of Pat Eddery, 11 times champion flat jockey at the age of only 63 after a long battle with health problems.
Riding in the same era as Lester Piggott and Willie Carson he had over 4,600 winners, including 14 British classics which took in three Derby wins with Grundy, 1975, Golden Fleece, 1982 and Quest For Fame, 1990, not to mention prevailing in two King Georges and gaining mastery four times in four French Arc de Triumphs at Longchamp.
I’ve read only Sir Gordon Richards rode more winners than Pat Eddery who retired from racing in 2003 and was awarded an O.B.E. in 2005. R.I.P.
