WORK is continuing on the improvements to reduce flood risk to the Fellgate Estate and it is hoped that Northumbrian Water will complete its programme of works by the end of May.

The council will then undertake further improvements that will help to tackle surface water flooding problems by implementing additional works at various locations across the estate.

We have been assured that a further residents’ open event will be held in the coming months to advise of these works and where they will take place, which helps to keep residents fully informed.

May we take this opportunity as your local Labour ward councillors to apologise for the disruption caused by these works.

However, the estate will benefit significantly through reduced flood risk and more homes protected, when all works are completed.

All queries raised have been directed to the correct partner for response.

The picture here was taken at a site visit requested by Couns Kilgour and Smith, and shows the detention basin developments carried out in partnership with South Tyneside Council.

The 5S free shuttle bus service, we campaigned for, on behalf of residents, will continue to operate until all major reinstatement works are completed, to ensure continuity of access for all.

Our recent survey responses reflect the weather and invasive impacts on the estate, but also an appreciative understanding that works are essential and welcomed.”

Couns Geraldine Kilgour and Alan Smith,

Labour Councillors,

Fellgate & Hedworth ward.
