I wasn’t surprised to read about the council’s parking profits dropping.
People will only pay for parking if they think they are being offered value for money.
Most of us choose to shop in Newcastle because, even though the parking costs can be expensive, there are lots of shops offering plenty of choice as well as good places to go for coffee or to eat.
If you don’t want to pay parking charges you can go to the MetroCentre, which again offers plenty to chose from with a pleasant atmosphere too.
Our town centre, despite all the efforts to revamp it, just cannot compete.
Sadly, it is a difficult problem to solve because the less people support the shops and businesses in our town centre the less we will have.
Even free parking wouldn’t tempt me to spend back into town.
