Letter of the week: 'South Shields should become part of the City of Sunderland'

South Shields, Cleadon and Whitburn should all drop the name South Tyneside then adopt a new name as part of City of Sunderland.

Sunderland and South Shields go back a long way.

Like Sunderland, these places used to be in County Durham.

There used to be things like Sunderland and Shields lifeboats, Sunderland and Shields water works, William Duncan was a South Shields grocery firm in Sunderland.
