People are the real pests

A FEW weeks I read in the Gazette (April 25) that, according to a new survey, South Tyneside is one of Britain’s worst hotspots for pest problems, with Newcastle a national pest hotspot.

So it should have come as no surprise when watching Waste Men on BBC Two (April 28) that workers in Newcastle, in their daily pursuit of dealing with the refuse problems of its citizens, had been sent out to tackle a mountain of household rubbish left to accumulate in someone’s back lane, which included quite a lot of foodstuffs, with several rats running hither and thither after being disturbed as the ‘Waste Men’ did their best to clean up the mess.

Hope the people who contributed to the disgusting sight were watching the progamme.
