Wrong to say yes to plan

So Northumbrian Police, in its efforts to keep in check crime and disorder in South Shields town centre and its surrounding streets, appears to have been thwarted by the by the council licensing sub-committee.

The committee has approved the application from the Esso Town Hall Service Station at Crossgate to sell alcohol 24 hours a day (Gazette, September 10) but, hey, what’s a little bit of extra noise, litter and antisocial behaviour among friends after 2am in the morning.
