Jim Elliott, chairman at South Shields, said: “We must dig in a little bit more and show form across all disciplines of the game, batting, fielding and bowling, hopefully, all at the same time.

“Having said that, the side is a very young one, a policy adopted at the start of the season in order to develop the cricket talent in the area.

“The batting needs more consistency in order to post 200+ scores, for the bowlers to attack.”

Castle Eden’s Jonathan Brown said: “James O’Neill is out, so Benjamin Simpson will be his replacement.

“He’s been biding his time in seconds, but now steps up try his luck with the big boys as keeper/batsman.

“The club is happy with their current position and form – fourth in the Dukes ECB NEPL First Division – but realise all form must be retained to keep the momentum going.”

Boldon entertain Gateshead Fell and make several changes.

Skipper Chris Ellison said: “Barry McCarthy is free from Durham duties and Ian Pattison is back in the side after injury.

“However, Gary Scott is still out and Nicholas Sampson-Barnes is unavailable, so Gareth Welsh retains his place.

“With that upheaval, the side needs to sharpen up its competitive edge no matter who the opposition is.

“If that is done then improvements in form and results will be forthcoming.”

Whitburn, second in the Premier Division, are at Newcastle and skipper Paul Shields said: “Philip Bell, is a doubt for the game and Brydon Carse is still struggling with his injured knee.

“Luke Smith and Ben Markham, who both played last week as the two replacements, will retain their places.

“It must be stressed that both gave very competent performances, so they deserve their selections.”

Boldon CA, in sixth position and 25 points short of the promotion positions, entertain Langley Park at New Road tomorrow in the Readers Durham Cricket League Division Two.

CA will be disappointed with their defeat last week to Hylton and after a great start to the season, need to get back on track with a win.

Meanwhile in Division One, Philadelphia are at Marsden and have Steve Wright and Gary Embleton both available.
