ALAN Pardew is ready to make a move in the transfer market – for former Newcastle United striker Shola Ameobi.
Ameobi is a free agent after leaving Turkish club Gaziantep last month.
And Pardew – who managed Ameobi in the latter part of his United career – is said to be interested in taking him to Selhurst Park.
West Bromwich Albion are also reportedly keen on signing Ameobi, who played for the club’s manager, Tony Pulis, during a loan spell at Stoke City earlier in his career.
Ameobi – who left St James’s Park last summer – was back at Newcastle’s training this month for treatment on an ankle problem.
At the time, United’s caretaker head coach, John Carver, suggested Ameobi was interested in a move to a Major League Soccer club.
Carver said: “He’s came in because he’s got a problem with his ankle.
“He knows the medical staff and knows me from way back. We’ve allowed him to come in and get some treatment.
“He’s actually talking about going to the MLS. If I can help him do that, then I will.”
