ALEX Gilliead was on target for Newcastle United’s Under-21s in a behind-closed-doors defeat to Burnley.

Peter Beardsley’s side lost 4-1 at Burnley’s Gawthorpe training ground this afternoon.

Shotley Bridge-born forward Gilliead gave Newcastle an eight-minute lead.

But goals from Ntumba Massanka, Jamie Frost and Kevin Ly netted for the home side before the break.

And Massanka added a fourth in the second half.

United are next in Under-21 Premier League action on April 7, when Middlesbrough visit St James’s Park.
