CALLUM Roberts says he’s “gutted” at missing out on tonight’s FA Youth Cup quarter-final against Chelsea.
The forward, on loan at Gateshead but eligible to play for Newcastle United, won’t be involved.
Roberts wished Under-18 team-mates Adam Armstrong, Dan Barlaser and Adam Laidler good luck on Twitter.
He tweeted: “Massive good luck to @AdamArma9 @barlaser_97 @adamlaidler96 and the rest of the team in the youth cup tonight. Gutted I can’t play.”
The 17-year-old played 45 minutes of Gateshead’s 2-1 Football Conference defeat to Nuneaton Town at the International Stadium on Sunday.
Roberts’s youth loan at Gateshead was extended to the end of the season last week.
The North Shields-born player signed a professional deal at the club last month after impressing at Under-21 level.
Admission to the Chelsea tie, which is being staged at St James’s Park, is free (7.05pm kick-off).
