Davide Santon suffers inury on his Newcastle comeback

RETURN ... Davide Santon.
RETURN ... Davide Santon.

DAVIDE Santon suffered a “minor knock” on his return from injury today.

The defender, sidelined since late last season, played almost an hour of a 1-1 draw against Gateshead.

Santon had surgery on his knee in the summer, and was an unused substitute against Everton on Sunday.

The 23-year-old left the field with an ankle problem, according to the club.

Adam Campbell was on target for Newcastle in the behind-closed-doors game, staged at the club’s Benton training ground.

Winger Jonas Gutierrez, last month given the all-clear after treatment for testicular cancer, played the full 90 minutes.

Defensive duo Curtis Good and Jamie Sterry also made their comebacks from injury.

NEWCASTLE UNITED: Woodman, Sterry (Streete), Satka (Gillesphey), Good (Quinn), Santon (Gibson), Roberts (illiead), Kemen (Bigirimana), Gutierrez, Vuckic, Olley, Campbell (Heardman).
