Oliver has been working on the coaching staff at Northern League Division One club Ryhope CW over the last six weeks – but will now work alongside his former Hebburn assistant Dave Bell at Perth Green.

Bell made the move to bring in Oliver in the aftermath of Wednesday night’s 4-2 home defeat to Newcastle University as his side lost for the third consecutive game.

The former Hornets boss revealed his delight at returning to a managerial position and stressed things will improve at the club “sooner rather than later”.

He told The Gazette: “It’s not going to be an issue being joint-manager.

“Me and Dave are big mates, we worked together at Hebburn Town, so there’s no issue there.

“I can bring in my knowledge of players, I have already been busy at work, beavering away and contacting a few players.

“I stayed for quite a while at Birtley Town and Hebburn, I don’t want to be there for just a few months, we want to build on the progress they’ve made in recent years.

“The facilities are excellent; the pitch is excellent and we have a good catchment area.

“They are where Hebburn were when I got them promoted, it’s a good second division club.

“Things will be done properly, it’s exciting what lies ahead and things will improve sooner rather than later.”

Oliver will be in the home dugout for the first time when Jarrow host Northern League Division Two rivals Birtley Town in the FA Vase second qualifying round on Saturday.
