Fairley hits treble as Jarrow Roofing hit West Allotment for six

Fairley, plus goals from Michael Mackay (2) and Paul Chow, gave the Roofers a sixth win in seven Northern League Division One games.

And the former Durham City man believes that a positional change has paid dividends for him in recent weeks.

“I’ve been playing at the point of a diamond behind the front two in the last few games,” he said.

“It’s given me a lot of freedom to move around the pitch and find space for myself.”

The hosts took the lead in the sixth minute through Mackay.

Mackay initially failed to control Kerry Hedley’s pass, but the ball fell to Chow, whose touch found its way back to Mackay, and the striker made no mistake from four yards.

Chow headed wide from an Alex White cross following a short corner before Hedley failed to add the finishing touch to an intricate passage of play.

As the game neared half-time, West Allotment came close to finding an equaliser twice in quick succession.

Robbie Williamson’s cross had been pushed away by Jak Wells in the West Allotment goal, Hedley rolled the ball back for Fairley, who fired an unstoppable drive into the bottom corner.

Fairley then made it 3-0 in the 57th minute with a nonchalant free-kick, a goal he later described as the best of his hat-trick.

Any feint hope of Celtic finding a way back into the game were killed off by Mackay, who rolled the ball into an empty net after Fairley’s initial effort was saved in the 74th minute.

Not to be outdone by his strike partner, Chow made sure that his name was on the scoresheet when he headed Fairley’s corner into the gaping goal ten minutes from time.

Fairley then completed his hat-trick a minute later with a second free-kick of the game, rolling the ball under the wall and past the helpless Wells, to round off a dominant win for Richie McLoughlin’s side.

The hat-trick hero was full of praise for the Roofing frontmen after the game.

“Michael and Paul have been around (the league) for a while scoring lots of goals.

“They switch positions and it’s opened up a lot more space for me to run into,” he said.

In the Wearside League, Boldon managed to hold on to the victory against Murton after going 3-0 up, thanks to Dominic Mossa, Alex Kempster and Adam Bell goals.

Murton didn’t give up and Reece Benson and Anthony Cowey closed the gap to a single goal,. Boldon, however, managed to hold on .

Jarrow and Spennymoor Town Reserves fought out a boring goalless draw.
