The former Dundee and Dunston UTS frontman became the centre of attention over the first four months of the season after scoring 22 goals in 16 games for the Hornets.

Scott spent a month on trial with Newcastle United and featured in two Under-23s games for the Magpies before the Premier League club decided against offering him a deal.

The striker has also been the subject of interest from Sunderland and Morecambe and spent the last three weeks with SkyBet League Two leaders Carlisle United.

A number of North East non-league clubs and Scottish clubs are also believed to be monitoring the situation and Bolam is keen to find a resolution in the near future.

Bolam told The Gazette: “It’s best for Cedwyn and us if things are sorted soon.

“If he goes somewhere, then we will wish him all of the best because he is a top lad and he’s worked hard to get himself into the position he is in.

“Obviously he is a big part of our squad so we want to know if he will still be our player going forwards.

“More importantly, Cedwyn needs that clarity too, he’s a young lad but he has handled everything that has come his way in a mature way.

“He deserves great credit for that - but both parties need to know where they are heading and hopefully that will happen soon.”

Bolam admitted that he is confident of finding a replacement for Scott if he does complete a move away from the current Northern League Division One leaders.

“We know there are more Cedwyn Scotts out there, it’s just about finding the right one.

“There are a lot of good players in the Northern League, but there are a lot of good young players out there just waiting for a manager to show faith in them.

“We also have a very good Under-23’s side and a good youth setup, which we are continually monitoring for players that can step up.”
