Cheick Tiote is out of Newcastle United’s visit to Selhurst Park.
The midfielder suffered a hamstring problem in Saturday’s 3-0 defeat to Leicester City.
While it is only a minor injury, Tiote won’t be available for Saturday’s Premier League game against Crystal Palace.
And that has left head coach Steve McClaren with a midfield headache.
McClaren is already without Tiote’s midfield colleague Jack Colback, who is recovering from the knee problem he suffered in last month’s Wear-Tyne derby.
With Colback not due back until next month, McClaren is shot of options for the Palace game.
Speaking after the Leicester match, McClaren said: “That was a big blow for us. We have obviously already got Colback out.
“We will have a look at Cheick in next few days, but hope it is not too serious.”
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Karl Darlow made his comeback from ankle ligament damage in yesterday’s Under-21 Premier League game against West Bromwich Albion.
The two sides played out a goalless draw at a sodden Whitley Park.
