Jarrow Roofing hoping to extend unbeaten run with capture of Mackay

Roofing played out a 0-0 draw with Mackay’s former club at Belle Vue Park on Tuesday evening and will be hoping they can grab a win tomorrow to extend a run that currently stands at four games without a loss.

Marske have also been in good form of late and are currently unbeaten in five league games – a streak that stretches all the way back to the end of October.

Roofers boss Richie McLoughlin acknowledges that the tie will be a tough one, but hopes that a run of improved performances can be extended beyond the weekend.

“Marske are a very good side and always hard working,” he said.

“We’ve been playing them since the Wearside League days and they’ve always been the same.

“They have some good players and come here as defending Northern League Champions. As for ourselves, we are starting to look stronger and better organised, but we still need to work hard and pick up points.”

Both sides played out 0-0 draws in their last league outing, though new signing Mackay will be hoping that he can break the deadlock tomorrow.

The attacker is something of a Northern League icon, having scored 271 goals in 308 games for his former club and the forward is excited to get started with a new team.

“I’m really looking forward to getting started with Roofing,” he said.

“I really liked what Richie and Dava had to say when I talked to them about the move.

“They said they want to build a team for next season that will challenge to win things. Hopefully, I’ll score a lot of goals and help the club achieve that.”

McLoughlin is looking forward to working with his new signing and is particularly relishing the partnership with current striker Paul Chow.

“Michael is a player I’ve long admired and had my eye on for a long time– he’s a proper goalscorer and I think he’ll work well with Paul Chow and give us an extra danger up top,” he said.

“We’re looking to build now for next season and Michael will be a player that will hopefully help us achieve our ambitions of challenging for silverware.”

Mackay is set to make his debut tomorrow and Roofing will also be boosted by the return of Corey Barnes to the playing squad.

Jamie Marshall and Kerry Hedley are doubts though should play a part, though Anth Myers is not yet ready for a return from injury. Meanwhile, Callum Patton has transferred to Morpeth Town.
