Jarrow Roofing missing a '˜nasty streak' '“ Richie McLoughlin

Two magnificent strikes from Celtic’s Michael Hall and Chris Douglass completed the league double over Roofing this season.

Dan Kirkup reduced the deficit shortly before half time, but the South Tynesiders were lethargic throughout and never seemed likely to claim a draw.

Roofing came into the game buoyed by the great point they claimed at high-flying Consett on Tuesday night.

However, the team looked short on ideas at times and toothless in attack, and boss McLoughlin believes his side currently lack the nasty streak required to turn teams over.

“Never in this world did we deserve to get anything out of that game,” he said.

“Too many players were not at it, and too many of them were too busy doing what they wanted to do on the pitch and not working for the team.

“I would say we are lacking heart and a nasty, clever streak.

“We lack that mentality, and that is something that needs to be sorted out sooner rather than later.”

The North Tynesiders came into the match on the back of a seven-game winless run in all competitions.

However, they looked hungry and confident, and Roofing found it difficult to cope with their intensity.

Andy Hunter palmed a cross into the path of Stephen Young, but he saw his shot hacked off the line. Dale Pearson then struck the rebound, but Arjun Purewal was on hand to clear.

However, Paul Stoneman’s men didn’t have to wait much longer to get themselves ahead as Hall produced a marvellous strike on 22 minutes.

Before the visitors had time to recover, Allotment had the ball in the net again with another great goal.

A cross landed at the feet of Douglass, and the former Roofer curled the ball into the top corner.

Kirkup was sent up front from centre back to provide some height and physicality to the attack, and he justified that switch as he dragged his side back into the game 10 minutes before the break.

Roofing return to cup action on Tuesday night when they host Whickham in the second round of the Brooks Mileson Memorial League Cup.
