King's pride as Mariners' Vase dream dies in epic shoot-out
South Shields manager Jon King felt his valiant players 'did the town proud' in last night's dramatic FA Vase tie with Morpeth Town.
The Mariners were agonisingly beaten 10-9 on penalties after a 3-3 draw and a superb performance at Consett. King said: “The players did themselves, the club and the town proud.
“Our performance and effort against what I feel is the best team in Northern League Division One shows how far we have come in a short space of time. We had enough chances to win three games, but credit to Morpeth for showing resilience and coming back in extra-time. Their goalkeeper was outstanding.”
