Man City admire Ayoze Perez, says Newcastle boss John Carver

HAPPY ... Ayoze Perez.
HAPPY ... Ayoze Perez.

NEWCASTLE United head coach John Carver has revealed Saturday’s opponents Manchester City are big fans of striker Ayoze Perez.

Newcastle make their second trip of the season to the Etihad Stadium this weekend, and won 2-0 at the venue in the League Cup in October.

Spanish striker Perez, 21, was an unused substitute in that game, but Carver has revealed some City staff expressed their admiration for the player afterwards.

Perez is expected to start on Saturday having been given ‘a few days off’ following last week’s draw at Crystal Palace, and Carver feels he is ‘fresh’ ahead of the clash with the Premier League champions.

Carver said: “He’s definitely played more games that I thought (he would) and he thought and everybody else thought, but he has done extremely well.

“The good thing is, we gave him a few days off to recharge his batteries after the Palace game.

“He’s had a good week’s training, so the stats are telling me that he’s fresh and ready to go again, so he will be looking forward to this challenge.

“After the game when we played down there, Manchester City kept talking about how good he was and what they thought of him, so they know he’s going to be a threat, and hopefully he will be.”
