Steve McClaren is sweating on the fitness of Jack Colback for Saturday’s visist to Manchester City.
The Newcastle United midfielder was forced off against Chelsea at the weekend.
Colback had recovered from the calf problem which saw him miss last week’s Capital One Cup tie against Sheffield Wednesday in time to line up against Jose Mourinho’s Premier League champions.
But the 25-year-old needed treatment after getting caught by Nemanja Matic in the first half.
Colback – who attempted to play on – was eventually forced off early in the second half.
And the former Sunderland ace is now doubtful for Newcastle’s game against second-placed City.
Second-from-bottom United have never won in the Premier League at the Etihad Stadium, though the club won there in the Capital One Cup last season.
