Newcastle United are battling with Everton and Bournemouth for highly-rated Barnsley defender Mason Holgate, according to reports.
The 18-year-old is set to hold talks with the south coast side this week but Premier League rivals Everton and Newcastle have both made offers, according to the Daily Mail.
Versatile Holgate, who can play right-back and centre-back, is highly-rated and valued around the £1m mark.
He featured 22 times for Barnsley last season and has been tipped to follow in the footsteps of John Stones.
Recently, he has been training with Manchester United.
Newcastle boss Steve McClaren has said he is on the “lookout” for new signings to bolster his defensive options.
