SEAN Longstaff put Newcastle United into the fifth round of the FA Youth Cup with a dramatic late winner over Middlesbrough.

Dave Watson’s Under-18s won 3-2 at the Riverside Stadium tonight thanks to goals from Longstaff, Dan Barlaser and Jamie Cobain.

Defender Cobain gave Newcastle a 10th-minute lead, but Alex Pattison levelled before that half-hour mark.

United’s Callum Roberts forced saves from Boro goalkeeper Thomas Dawson either side of the break.

The home side took the lead in the 67th minute thanks to a penalty from Callum Cooke.

Newcastle, however, equalised five minutes from time through a strike from midfielder Barlaser, and with the tie heading for extra time, midfielder Longstaff seized on a loose ball to put his team through.

NEWCASTLE UNITED: Woodman, Cobain, Williams (Laidler, 80), Drennan, Newberry, Cameron, Ward, Barlaser, Roberts, Longstaff, Holmes (Heaney, 63).
