10 games in, Newcastle fans judge Steve McClaren on Twitter

Steve McClaren said at the start of his Newcastle United reign not to judge him until 10 games in – well, now the Magpies are there.

United have played 10 Premier League games, and picked up just one win from that run, as they sit second-bottom of the Premier League.

There have been poor performances as well as some encouraging display recently, including a draw against Chelsea, the first half effort at Manchester City and Sunderland, and the 6-2 win over Norwich.

But having taken just six points out of a possible 30, and crashed out of the Capital One Cup at home to Sheffield Wednesday’s second string, how do fans rate his start after the club spent more than £50million in the summer?

Newcastle supporters on Twitter had this to say:

@Ratmanjon: I’m still positive. Norwich and 1st half yesterday were good. Play like that & we’ll survive.

@Moleps1892: Needs to be given time we are playing some good football with a young squad. Remove the defensive errors & we’ll be fine

@simmas78: many positives but inability to win games worrying. Players far better than league position.

@AdamAtherton10: its not good enough, 1 win in 10 games is embarrassing.

@PW26228: he’s not doing a very good job of sorting out a mess that isn’t his fault, & hasn’t been given the players to do it.

@toonfan65: I think McClaren should get more time, 3 red cards & injuries have not helped & we are starting to look like a decent side.

@Baz_Wilson50: ashley will be thinking tv money next season. We’re bottom of the league @ the end of the day. Not good enough.

‏@ADMusgrove: SM is talking about progress and first half performances like results don’t matter. It’s like he’s still in pre season.

@Bettsy1Chris: 22 yellow cards and 3 reds..... That’s pretty damning & undermining some good work. Isn’t it?

@oneryandunn: his half time talks must be awful

@lemmiwinks42: Not convinced but he still has too many players that need to go that he must work with.

Liam Prickett: still strangely positive... But points tally has to drastically improve in next few games. Football is better for all to see.

@iamleebarry: I like what he is trying to do, but he needed to get some defensive cover in, that has been out downfall for the past 5 years.

@dave_leeds: Better football but alarming lack of results. ‘If we play like that every week...’ is becoming a recurring cliché. We’re 19th!

‏@nettydoor: Remember we went out of the cup to Sheffield Wed reserves. #Verdict ? 6 pts from 30 says it all.
