Newcastle United failed to make a significant number of signings this summer, bringing in Joe Willock on a permenant deal and Santiago Munoz on loan from Santos Laguna.
The Magpies are still light in defence and could do with freshening up at the back, with three of their defenders (Ciaran Clark, Jamaal Lascelles and Paul Dummett) part of the side that were at St. James’ Park during their 2016/17 campaign in the Championship.
While Callum Wilson and Allan Saint-Maximin are two of Newcastle’s best players, fans will be hoping to add another attacking threat to the side rather than relying on the duo to get them the goals.
Here are 9 players whose contracts are expiring in 2022 and so could be sold for cheap in the January window or become a free agent next summer.
5. James Tarkowski
James Tarkowski has been a regular for Burnley over the last few years and has picked up two England caps thanks to his performances for Sean Dyche's side. The defender is out of contract next summer and may look to move elsewhere.
6. Jonjoe Kenny
Jonjoe Kenny has spent the last two seasons on loan with Schalke and Celtic but can't get in the Everton starting XI ahead of Seamus Coleman. Rafa Benitez was keen to move the right-back on this summer for as little as £5 million but the 24-year-old remains at Goodison Park going into the final year of his contract.

7. Niklas Stark
Niklas Stark's has been with Bundesliga club Hertha Berlin since 2015 but with the defender's contract expiring next summer, there could be a host of clubs interested in his signature. However Pál Dárdai's side are very keen to extend the 26-year-old's stay.

8. David Brooks
David Brooks impressed for Bournemouth during his time in the Premier League and Newcastle United were already reportedly keen on the midfielder this summer. If the 24-year-old opts to run down his contract then he could be a brilliant addition.
