Achraf Lazaar's set to STAY at Newcastle United.
The Newcastle United defender has been interesting a number of Serie A clubs, including Genoa and Atalanta.
And reports in Italy yesterday claimed that Lazaar, signed from Palermo last summer, was set to join Benevento on a season-long loan with an option to buy.
United manager Rafa Benitez sent Lazaar to the club's Academy last month and told him to find a new club.
However, the Gazette understands that Lazaar is now more likely to stay at St James's Park.
Benitez wants to sign a left-back before tonight's 11pm transfer deadline.
The club has submitted a loan offer for Southampton's Matt Targett, while Newcastle haven't given up hope of securing Chelsea's Kenedy on loan.
Kenedy, a winger, can offer cover at left-back.
Paul Dummett, the club's first-choice left-back, suffered a hamstring problem in the club's season-opener against Tottenham Hotspur, while Massadio Haidara has also been in the treatment room.
