Gael Bigirimana has had his loan at Coventry City extended as Adam Armstrong waits for his six-month extension to be “rubber-stamped”.

Newcastle United midfielder Bigirimana will stay with the League One club until January 24.

Armstrong’s half-season deal expires on January 16, and United head coach Steve McClaren is happy for the in-form forward to stay for the rest of the season. But Coventry manager Tony Mowbray said: “The deal’s yet to be rubber stamped.”
