Alan Shearer's ready to roar on Newcastle United in the Tyne-Wear derby – but he'd rather be back on the pitch!

The club's all-time record goalscorer has sent a good luck message to the team on Twitter ahead of this afternoon's game against Sunderland.

Shearer, now a Match of the Day pundit, retired as a player a decade ago.

And the 45-year-old is rarely tempted to put on his boots, but Shearer would make an exception for the Tyne-Wear derby.

He tweeted: "It's rare that I ever want to pull my boots back on. But today I would love to! Come on @NUFC!!"

Relegation-threatened Newcastle are 19th in the Premier League.
