Aleksandar Mitrovic says there’s more to come from him after making his debut against York City on Wednesday night.

The Serb striker played for more than an hour in his first appearance for the Magpies since his £13million move from Anderlecht.

He failed to score, but says he will get better with more games alongside his new team-mates.

“I have only had one training session and now one game so far,” Mitrovic told the club’s website.

“I am going to need one or two games more to learn all about the team and how they play. But we have a really good coach and I have already seen how good the players are here, so I am looking forward to playing for the team.

“I wanted to score and was doing everything to score but I was a little unlucky. Maybe it will happen on Saturday, or if not then against Southampton – that is the most important game and I am sure I will score in that one.

“For me, it is important that I started to play games. This was my first game of pre-season and I felt really good on the pitch. I hope Saturday’s match against Borussia Monchengladbach will be better.”
