Saint-Maximin responded to speculation about his absence from the first-team squad while in France with his family.

The Gazette reported earlier today that the Newcastle United winger, along with captain Jamaal Lascelles, was recovering from Covid-19 following the recent outbreak at the club which has left some players, according to head coach Bruce, suffering from “long-term” after-effects.

Speaking on Instagram, Saint-Maximin said: “I have no problem with Steve Bruce. I am fine. I am with my family, as you can see. I have no problem. You can see I feel really good. I love the club. I love the fans. I love everything. I feel great.”

Saint-Maximin missed the Crystal Palace game late last month after complaining of a calf injury the day before the game. The 25-year-old also missed the three following fixtures.
