Andy Carroll could make his long-awaited return from injury for West Ham United against former side Newcastle United.
The Hammers striker has seen his West Ham career besieged with injuries and has been out since February with his latest problem, a knee ligament injury.
But co-chairman David Gold has revealed he could make his return against Steve McClaren’s Magpies in the first Premier League game back after the international break.
When asked on Twitter whether Carroll could be back, Gold tweeted: “He is working hard and he is determined. I am hopeful he will be on the bench. dg”
Carroll was expected to be missing until October but he returned to training with the Under-21 squad last month, and boss Slaven Bilic believes the England international could play some part against former club Newcastle United on Monday, September 14.
