As well as the departure of Rafa Benitez, the Magpies allowed a number of players to depart in the summer of 2019, whether that be on a permanent transfer, loan deal or allowing their contracts to expire. Here, we take a look at the players who departed – and how they are faring at their new clubs. Click and scroll through the pages:
1. Dan Barlaser - Rotherham United (loan)
The midfielder is playing a starring role in the Millers’ charge towards the Championship with boss Paul Warne admitting he ‘makes them tick’. They’re top of League One and when the summer comes round, Steve Bruce may take a liking to the player. Photo: Lewis Storey
2. Ayoze Perez - Leicester City
The Spaniard, who consistently divided opinion at St James’s Park, is doing the same at Leicester. He has seven goals to his name in 22 appearances - and it’s usually at this point in the season where he starts hitting the goal trail regularly. Photo: Michael Regan
3. Joselu - Alaves
Branded as a Newcastle flop after his exit, the 29-year-old is enjoying his return to La Liga and holds a better record than record-signing Joelinton with nine goals in 22 games for Alaves, who sit in a comfortable 14th position. Photo: CRISTINA QUICLER
4. Mohamed Diame - Al-Ahli
Diame joined Qatar side Al-Ahli soon after his Magpies release and has played all 14 games for the club this season - sitting 8th in the Qatar Stars League. He is still awaiting his first goal at his new club. Photo: Mark Runnacles
