MATHIEU Debuchy is set to be pitched in at centre-half against his former club Newcastle United.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger – without the injured Laurent Koscielny and the suspended Calum Chambers – is down to the bare bones in defence ahead of this evening’s game at the Emirates Stadium.
And Debuchy – who only returned from a long-term ankle injury against Galatasaray in midweek – could be switched to central defence after just one training in the position.
Wenger said: “I have asked him already, and it’s what I have to decide.
“The solution I have to decide will not be ideal – it will be a gamble – but there’s not a massive difference between right-back and centre-back.”
France international Debuchy joined Arsenal from Newcastle in the summer.
The 29-year-old was replaced by Daryl Janmaat, who signed from Feyenoord.
