JOHN Carver’s pledged to manage Rolando Aarons – on AND off the pitch.
Aarons is nearing a comeback from a long-standing hamstring problem.
The teenager – who made an explosive start to his first-team career at Newcastle United early this season – could return next month.
“He’s almost there, and we’re not going to rush him,” said head coach Carver. “He will start with the fitness guy on Monday, then he will be with us.”
Carver demoted Aarons to the Academy last season, and is determined to keep the winger’s feet on the ground.
“We had a few issues with him – I wasn’t happy with the way he was behaving – so I sent him back to the Academy, and told him to earn the right to come back up here,” said Carver.
“He was down there for six weeks. When he came back he was a different person, a different player. Everything since then has gone in an upward spiral.”
Aarons has turned now a new deal at United.
Newcastle have the 19-year-old under contract for another 18 months, and also have the option of another year.
