Turkish outfit Besiktas have stepped up their interest in Aleksandar Mitrovic - with reports suggesting the club are sending representatives to Tyneside to seal the deal.

Sport publication Fotospor claim that the Black Eagles are keen to sign the Serbian international forward, amid interest from Istanbul rivals Fenerbahce.

And the reports says that Besiktas have already taken a step ahead in the race, with a meeting arranged with United officials this week.

It is not clear whether United will allow Mitrovic to leave this summer, although the likely capture of Tammy Abraham could hasten Mitrovic's exit, especially with first-team action likely to be limited.

The 22-year-old, signed from Anderlecht, scored just four Championship goals for Newcastle last season, failing to build on a positive start to life in black and white in the Premier League.
