Isaac Hayden is a target for Brighton and Hove Albion.
The Newcastle United midfielder has handed a transfer request in at the club.
Hayden – who did not travel with his team-mates for the club's pre-season training camp in Ireland – wants to return south for what have been described as "genuine family reasons".
And Brighton are interested in signing the 23-year-old, who found his opportunities limited in the Premier League last season.
The club had been in for Hayden when he joined from Arsenal two years ago.
Hayden helped Newcastle win promotion from the Championship two seasons ago.
The England Under-21 international made 15 top-flight starts last term.
