JOHN Carver says he has got the full backing of Newcastle United’s players ahead of Saturday’s trip to Chelsea.
The game at Stamford Bridge will be Carver’s third in caretaker charge since the departure of manager Alan Pardew to Crystal Palace.
And he has described the players’ response to the change as “fantastic”.
Carver said: “The players have been fantastic with me. The feedback (from the players) has been excellent so far and I’m happy with that.
Newcastle inflicted Chelsea’s first defeat of the season in December, with Papiss Demba Cisse’s brace sealing a 2-1 win at St James’s Park.
That is sure to make Jose Mourinho’s side even more determined to get a win which would keep them at the top of the Premier League table.
Carver, though, is hoping Newcastle can continue their impressive recent record against the Blues.
He added: “We’re going up against one of the best sides – and best manager – in Europe, if not the world.
“We’ve got a good record against Chelsea and we have to use that to our advantage this weekend.”
