Blues boss Thomas Tuchel has confirmed the Magpies’ trip to Stamford Bridge is likely to come too soon for the injured duo.

Tuchel said: “It’s too soon for sure for Thiago. We are aiming for Southampton and trying hard so let’s see if we make it but we cannot promise."

Tuchel did however provide a positive update regarding Timo Werner and Andreas Christensen’s fitness. The latter was substituted at half-time during the 1-0 FA Cup win at Barnsley on Thursday.

The German added: “It was not concussion-related at all, It was a headache so we took him off.

"It’s Friday and we still have three training sessions before the game.

‘It should be absolutely okay for Timo to come back but maybe too close for Kai.”
