Christian Atsu says there was only one place he wanted to be this season.
The winger helped Newcastle United win the Championship title on loan from Chelsea last season.
And Rafa Benitez made the move permanent in May.
"I wanted to be part of the Newcastle family," said the 25-year-old told BBC Radio Newcastle.
"I wanted to find a place to settle down. I'm happy to be here."
Asked if Newcastle was his first choice, the Ghana international added: "Yes, that was my first choice.
"When the season ended, I wanted to stay. I always loved working with the team.
"He (Benitez) is very important for the team, and also for me. I'm always happy and enjoy working with him."
Atsu is now looking forward to representing the club in the Premier League.
He said: "I'm very happy to be back in the Premier League with Newcastle and a great manager.
"I need to work hard and try to be better than I was before."
