Newcastle United's Christian Atsu has had a knee operation – but the winger will be fit for the start of pre-season.
Atsu was yesterday omitted from Ghana's squad for an African Cup of Nations qualifier against Ethiopia and friendlies against Mexico and the USA next month.
The 25-year-old this week joined Newcastle from Chelsea in a £6.2million deal.
Atsu – who has signed a four-year deal at St James's Park – had impressed during a season-long loan at the club.
Reports in Ghana claim that Atsu, capped 42 times by his country, was left out of Kwesi Appiah's squad because of surgery to his knee.
The minor procedure will sideline him for around four weeks and Atsu is expected to be ready for the start of pre-season training on July 3.
Jamaal Lascelles, Matt Ritchie and Jamie Sterry have also had end-of-season operations.
