Daryl Janmaat is out of Saturday’s game against Swansea City with the hand injury he suffered punching a wall at Southampton.
The Newcastle United defender broke two fingers when he lashed out in frustration in the dressing room at the St Mary’s Stadium, where his team were beaten 3-1.
Janmaat had limped off the field with a groin problem after slipping in the build-up to Southampton’s second goal.
Sources in Holland claim Janmaat has since had surgery on his hand.
Relegation-threatened Newcastle take on Swansea at St James’s Park in desperate need of a win to keep they faint hopes of survival alive.
And United manager Rafa Benitez is desperately hoping that Janmaat can play some part in the club’s run-in.
