DeAndre Yedlin says he has no regrets about leaving Tottenham Hotspur ahead of Newcastle United’s visit to Wembley.
The club will make its first visit to the rebuilt national stadium tomorrow night.
I made a decision to come to Newcastle, and it hasn’t disappointed me, so I’m very happy to have made that move.DeAndre Yedlin
Yedlin defender left the Premier League club to sign for United in the Championship two years ago.
And the 24-year-old – who missed the season-opener against Tottenham through injury – hopes to make his first appearance against his former team at Wembley, the club’s temporary home.
“If I get the opportunity to play, it would be unbelievable,” said Yedlin.
“One, to just play at Wembley. Even in America, we know about Wembley. It would be pretty cool to play there.
“And two, also against my old team. I still have some friends there on that team, so it would be great to play against them and see them and see the staff again.
“It would be a great experience.”
Yedlin only made one substitute’s appearance for Tottenham after joining from Seattle Sounders in January 2015.
The USA international was loaned to Sunderland for the 2015-16 season by Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino.
Yedlin was then offered regular first-team football by Benitez – who needed a new right-back in the summer 2016.
“When you look back on it, it worked out,” said Yedlin, who helped Newcastle win the Championship last season.
“Two years ago I was new coming in (to the Premier League).
“I came in January, and they were in a position where they needed results.
“I can understand the manager’s decision to leave me out.
“I made a decision to come to Newcastle, and it hasn’t disappointed me, so I’m very happy to have made that move.”
The Tottenham game is followed by Sunday’s final game of the season against Chelsea.
Newcastle are 10th in the Premier League table.
United have lost three games since securing their top-flight status with a win over Arsenal last month.
“We don’t want to end a good season on a sour note,” said Yedlin.
“We want to get points from these next games.”
