Divock Origi's Liverpool future under scrutiny as Newcastle and Wolves eye deals

Loan deals rarely go through early in a transfer window so it could be that we are set for a strong end to the month after a slow start.

There’s certainly a few players who look set to be on the move before the deadline.

When you see Divock Origi’s name trending on Twitter then you think it may be due to the bit-part Liverpool player/legend/flop (delete where applicable) may be about to ride to the rescue of someone, but it seems there has yet to be a suitor for the striker and instead it was just fans wondering how he might fare against Aston Villa’s kids last night.

He’s had his admirers after his Champions League exploits of 2019. Unfortunately, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp isn’t one of them, not even starting him against Villa. However, it still wouldn’t surprise to see Origi – linked with Newcastle, Wolves, West Ham and Inter Milan – on the move this month. Wolves are in need of a forward and have been linked with some big-name players.

Hamza Choudhury’s hopes of leaving Leicester City this month however appear to have received a blow after Brendan Rodgers revealed the Foxes aren’t interested in entertaining loan agreements.

Newcastle and West Brom have been linked with the player but Magpies boss Steve Bruce admitted to the Gazette today that he doubts many Premier League deals will be done.

“It’s one where the stage he’s at in his career, he’s played enough games, so it’s something where a loan deal isn’t an overly attractive one at this moment in time,” Rodgers told LeicestershireLive.

“It’s just something that we’re not in a big rush to do, but because of the enquiries over a loan, I just wanted to make it clear that he’s not really a player that we’re overly keen on loaning. If someone is looking to buy him, or sees his qualities to buy then that’s a different matter. We’ll see what January brings on that front.”

What this weekend will no doubt bring is an opportunity for a number of fringe players at clubs to get some game time in the cup, put themselves in the shop window to hopefully secure a move away from the club. Just not you, Divock!
