Dwight Gayle passed fit to face Tottenham, Florian Lejeune also starts for Newcastle

Rafa Benitez has named his Newcastle United starting XI for the club's Premier League season-opener.

Newcastle take on Tottenham Hotspur at St James's Park this afternoon in a televised game (1.30pm kick-off).

And Dwight Gayle has been passed fit to lead the line for Benitez's side.

The striker had missed last weekend's final friendly against Hellas Verona because of a hamstring problem.

Benitez has also handed full league debuts to Florian Lejeune and Javier Manquillo, while Mikel Merino, another of the club's summer signings, is on the bench.

Mauricio Pochettino's side were beaten 5-1 on their last visit to the stadium on the final day of the 2015-16 campaign.

United manager Benitez is without injured former Tottenham defender DeAndre Yedlin.

Meanwhile, former Newcastle midfielder Moussa Sissoko starts for the visitors.
