While fans mourn the Spaniard's departure and those in the halls of power pick up the pieces after their ill-fated power struggle, there will be some within the camp who see Benitez's exit as an opportunity to revive their Magpies career.

A supremely talented midfielder signed from Swansea City. Divides opinion with his in and out performances and found it difficult to break into Benitez's team, even when fully fit, last season.

7. Rolando Aarons
Has one year left on his current United deal. Due to injury and off field issues has seen his playing time on Tyneside limited. Spent the back end of last season on loan at Sheffield Wednesday. A talent, who will be keen to impress.

8. Henri Saivet
The midfielder was signed from France the January Andros Townsend and Jonjo Shelvey arrived. Unlike the other two, has made little impression on Tyneside, bar his free-kick against West Ham.
