Peter Beardsley was delighted with the performance of Newcastle’s new signing Ivan Toney in the under-21s draw with Blackburn Rovers this week.
Beardsley, United’s football development manager and former England international, said the teenage striker, who signed from Northampton, would be good for United.
“Ivan had a couple of efforts late on and looked sharp,” he said. “He will be good for us.
“I really like what I’ve seen from him so far. He’s big, strong and shoots on sight, but he can also create and put a couple of great crosses in, which we could have scored from.”
Toney was making his debut for United’s under-21s as they drew 1-1 with Blackburn at Whitley Park on Monday night.
