FORMER Newcastle United forward Hatem Ben Arfa has received an offer from a club in China, according to French daily sports newspaper L’Équipe.
Ben Arfa, whose contract at Newcastle was cancelled at the start of January, was prevented from joining French side Nice last month due to FIFA regulations.
Players are only allowed to play for two clubs in one season, and the 27-year-old had represented Newcastle’s Under-21s as well as Hull City during his loan spell there.
The French authorities classed Ben Arfa’s appearance for Newcastle’s Under-21s as a competitive fixture, and therefore blocked him from playing for Nice this season.
Because of that, Ben Arfa is effectively in limbo until the end of the campaign.
However, L’Équipe claims the Frenchman has received a lucrative short-term offer from a club in China, which could allow him to return to Europe for the 2015-16 season.
The newspaper also states, though, that Ben Arfa will not rule out waiting until the summer before making a decision on his future.
